since having my son lee in 1998 i've always strived for that 'one great cake'! the looks on kids faces when the lights go out and in walks a loved one carrying a cake with a flaming candle is priceless.
i was never happy with shop bought cakes and when lee was old enough to start asking forr certain cakes i could never find the ones he wanted in the shops so had to settle on scooby doo, bob the builder & tweenies!
when my second son jodi came along in 2003 i vowed things would change! i looked at my 3 tier heart shaped wedding cake with roses and though..i could do that! on jodi's second birthday he asked for a motorbike cake..well as normal not one shop had any and if i wanted a specialist cake they ranged from £20 up! no way! i bought a wilton motorbike pan on ebay for £13. unfortuately this did not come with any cake recipes! and i was a terrible baker! my creation failed...miserably! it wouldnt release from the pan and i basically just flicked it all around the kitchen and all over the floor! disaster! i decided to make a normal round cake and got my husband(he's the artist in the family!) to sketch a motorbike onto tracing paper and i etched it into the icing. thankfully it worked and then i iced in the details. for my first attempt i was really chuffed and so was jodi and thats what matters!
i do have a picture somewhere and will dig it out to post!
